Microorganisms will play an important role in sustainable farming.

Noemí Herrero, director of R&D&I for Grupo Agrotecnologia, speaks about microorganisms in farming in order to achieve sustainability.

Aware of climate change, Grupo Agrotecnologia searches for tools, mechanisms and solutions through research, innovation and technology to create biostimulants with a microbial base, that protect crops facing a lack of water and others abiotic stresses, with the aim of making them environmentally friendly, and also profitable, effective and sustainable.

Microorganisms can colonise soils naturally, and soils colonised by a larger number of microorganism and with a greater diversity will be healthier and compatible with crops. As Noemí Herrero says, it is essential to know the plant-microorganism interaction – microorganisms and the various mechanisms through which microorganisms generate tolerance in plants to abiotic stresses.
Most abiotic stresses affect plants on several levels, although normally these abiotic stresses are associated with the production of reactive oxygen substances, which negatively affect the plant, producing cellular damage, metabolic toxicity, inhibition of photosynthesis or change in the hormonal levels.
It is impossible to generalise when talking about a mechanism with a unique action, through which microorganisms will slow down negative effects arising from stress in a plant.
In many cases, it is known that certain species of microorganism are capable of inducing tolerances, even though the mechanism used to obtain these results is unknown.
Formulation in the production of biostimulants with a microbial base is very important. Recent advances in this field have meant that technologies developed in this field can adapt without many changes to almost any kind of microbial strain.

TEC- BOM, of Grupo Agrotecnología, new phytosanitary registration in Portugal

Grupo Agrotecnología, a leading company in the field of biostimulants, biopesticides, biofertilizers and a pioneer in the Zero Residue strategy, has obtained the authorization and phytosanitary registration of the natural insecticide, TEC-BOM, in Portugal. TEC-BOM has already received phytosanitary registration in Spain, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Cyprus. It is expected that next month it will be authorized by Greece and Italy and in 2019 by Morocco. This new phytosanitary registration increases the number of registrations obtained in 2018.
